As for what you've found online, is it outdated or simply not updated? I'd imagine one place you've seen info about is the Ledges, about halfway down the east side of Harriman Reservoir aka Lake Whitingham. It's a very well-established area that had some issues due to a town ordinance perhaps 12 to 15 years ago, but AFAIK it's a good option now.
